Beautiful wooden beaded Ashanti doll from Cameroon. On a Perspex base.
The high forehead is a symbol of beauty, and the neck rings depict creases cause by fat, which is a symbol of health. The body is shaped like a cross similar to the Kamitic symbol Djed (backbone), which represents stability. Traditionally, Ashanti women would wear the Doll on her back in hopes of conceiving a child.
